Obituary for Rosa Lee TerWisscha

Rosa Lee went home to her Lord and Savior on June 3, 2019, after a brief illness. She looked forward to Heaven: to see Jesus face to face and to join her parents, her son Roger, a stillborn baby boy, and her many other friends and relatives there.
Before her last surgery, the doctor asked if she had any concerns, and her immediate reply was, “No. Because I know Jesus.” She was known for her deep and abiding faith and her love for gathering with family and friends.
Rosa Lee was born in Sioux Center, Iowa, on March 4, 1937, to John and Marie (Schoulten) Hollander. She moved to Lynden at age 5 with her mom and dad and graduated from Lynden Christian High School.
In 1955, she married her sweetheart, Ernie TerWisscha. Over the next ten years, Rosa Lee and Ernie welcomed six sons and raised them in their home on 10 acres near Lynden.
Rosa Lee was an amazing mom, gifted with eyes in the back of her head. She seemed to know when her boys were in trouble and when they caused trouble.
She fed her large family from her abundant garden and canned fruits, veggies, and sauces to last them all year. Every Christmas, her children and grandchildren looked forward to her homemade Dutch almond sticks.
For 77 years, she attended and served at Third Christian Reformed Church in Lynden.
Ever active, Rosa Lee regularly exercised at Swimnastics at the Lynden YMCA. She enjoyed fishing and often out-fished Ernie. For many years, they square danced together.
Alongside Ernie, Rosa Lee started and ran Ernie’s Jack Shop (which later became NorWest Hydraulic and Pneumatic), partnered in Pacific Insulation, and managed a mobile home park. Rosa Lee also sold Avon and Fashion Frocks, as well as hosted Tupperware parties.
Rosa Lee and Ernie travelled for business and pleasure and collected spoons from all 50 states and most European countries. During retirement, they journeyed in their fifth wheel trailer and were snowbirds in Arizona and California.
Rosa Lee is survived by Ernie, her devoted husband of 64 years; son Rick and wife Rose TerWisscha of Lynden; son Roger’s widow, Erika TerWisscha, of Sunnyside, Washington; son Ron and wife DaMond TerWisscha of Everson; son Randy and wife Terri TerWisscha of Bellingham, son Ray and wife Lynn TerWisscha of Sumas; son Ryan TerWisscha of Lynden; sister Karla and husband Herm Gunst of Lynden; brother Dennis and wife Lynette Hollander of Birch Bay; and brother Ed and wife Marta Hollander of Whistler, BC. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a large extended family.
Donations may be made in her name to Lynden Christian Schools and Whatcom Hospice.
