Obituary for Linda VanderHorst

Linda Lee (Stubblefield) Vanderhorst, age 77 of Lynden , Washington passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday September 2, 2019 , after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Linda was born September 12, 1941 to James and Lilian (Armstrong) Stubblefield in Herrin, Illinois. Linda attended and graduated from the Southern Illinois University in 1965 earning her Bachelors of Arts degree. This is where she met and married the love of her life, James Richard Vanderhorst, on December 16, 1968.

They Lived in Corvallis, Oregon then moved to Sequim Washington in 1973. Where she and her husband raised their family of three children. Linda discovered the art of stained glass during this time. She was well known for making and selling her Stained glass windows, lamps and decorations for many years in the Sequim area. She also created many Mt.Saint Helens mirrors and decorations from the ashes of the mountain in 1980. They later moved their family to Ferndale Washington in 1985 and then finally moved to Lynden Washignton in 1987.

Lynden is where Linda would continue creating her stained glass out of stepping stones and many beauiful pillows she would sell out of her home on Front street or in selective stores around town.

When linda wasn't creating her art work. She would enjoy gardening and cooking. She was quite the treasure hunter and always enjoyed going to the local thrift stores and gararge sales. She also loved to have many garage sales at her home where she loved to socailize and meet the people in the communtiy.

Linda was a very caring person who valued life-long friendships and family. Her friendly and kind personality was a magnet to many. She loved spending time with her family who will miss her dearly. Linda was a loving and devoted wife to her husband of 47 years. She has suffered many years with Alzheimer's . Although she was loved so much by many people. We all have comfort in knowing she is finally at peace from this life altering disease. God has called her home into her loving husband's arms.

Linda is survived by her son Kevin (Cathy) Vanderhorst of Everson, daughter Rachel(Scott) Heaps of Everson and son Adam Vanderhorst of Lynden and fiance Rika Reuble. She is further survived by her grandchildren Deryk Vanderhorst, Kaytlin Vanderhorst, Emily Vanderhorst and Gage Vanbeek..

She is preceded in death by her husband James Richard Vanderhorst of Lynden , grandson Ty Laine Malone of Everson and siblings Doris King of Illinois, Steven Subblefield of illinois.

With respects to Linda's wishes there will not be a funeral service. A celebration of life will be held in a private ceromony with her close family and friends. Please sign the book of memories of condolences for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's society of Washington.
