Obituary for Hortencia Harrison

After a courageous fight with cancer, on May 9th, 2019, Hortencia “Tiny” Harrison passed on to be with her Savior, surrounded by her loved ones, at home, just as she had asked.

She is survived by her children Mary G Maciel, Cecil (Marta) Harrison, Jack “JD” Harrison and Mark (Cher) Harrison. After she raised her children, she had the honor of raising her daughters’ children Jack (Robin) Harrison, Kim (Brian) Mellema, Brandon (Christine) Harrison and Luke (Gina) Harrison. She felt very honored to raise them as her own.

She was proud of her grandchildren, Nick Harrison, Alesha (Jacob) Harrison, Roberto Rangel, Michael (April) Rangel, Hunter (Hailey) Harrison, Parker (Alissa) Harrison, Tanner (Kara) Harrison, Bryce (Mindy) Harrison, Brittney Harrison, Dana Pierce and Brielle, Taya, Demi, Jerica Kingsborough-Harrison.

She had 17 great grandchildren; Larissa and Kestin Mellema, Montana, Houston and Atlanta Harrison, Eric and Alex Harrison, Hector, Santos and Jade Harrison, Victoria, Anthony, Vincent, and May Rangel, Adriana, Luciano and Ellie Rangel, Madison, Jack, Kayden, and James Harrison, Micah Harrison, Eric and Makenzie Harrison

She also leaves behind her sister Ninfa (Ruben) Lopez, Leo (Ruby) Saenz, Johnny (Shirley) Saenz, and numerous nieces and nephews which she loved as her own children, as well as dear friends Barb Oltman, Pam Knelson, Maria Cardona, Marina Parsons and Millie Dalton.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Lynda Mae Harrison, grand-daughter Rosa, husband Jack Harrison, sister Maria Villanueva, brother Luis Saenz, brother Jose Saenz and dear friend Kevin Elgie.

It was a great honor to take care of our mother at home, where she was able to spend her last moments surrounded by her loved ones. The family would like to extend immense gratitude to Whatcom Hospice, especially to nurses Brooke and Andrea, who went above and beyond to make this possible.

Many knew Tiny from JCPenney where she worked for 28 years and retired, and was able to enjoy her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She was well known for the many wedding, bride’s maid and prom dresses she had made for family and friends over the years.

Per her request, there will be no services. Private burial will be held at the end of May. There will be a memorial service to celebrate her life, in the first week of June.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please make a donation to: Whatcom Hospice, “In Memory of Hortencia “Tiny” Harrison”, 2800 Douglas Ave., Bellingham, WA 98226. . Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
