Obituary for Conrad TeVelde

Conrad TeVelde, age 78, transitioned to heaven from home with his family around him on Saturday, January 11, 2020. Conrad was a skilled craftsman and carpenter. He was known as the “Doorman” and “Copper Con” specializing in installing doors and hardware in banks, schools, the hospital and jail throughout Whatcom County. He had a strong work ethic.

Conrad was born on January 1, 1942 in Brooten, Minnesota. His parents Lubbertus Henry (Hank) and Gertrude (Vos) TeVelde came from Nanevelde and Enschede, the Netherlands respectively. Conrad grew up in Minnesota but spent his last 60 years in Washington State. He served two years in the Army. Conrad married Carol Klein on January 31, 1969 at Everson Christian Reformed Church.

Conrad enjoyed Wood-Mizer sawmilling and building garden sheds and benches. He drew up the plans and built the home he and his wife have lived for 50 years. Conrad built two different cabins on a small lake spending vacations with family. He liked cutting wood and even crafted his own wood splitter.

Conrad and Carol attended Wiser Lake Chapel. He loved the Lord his Savior all his life, enjoyed reading scripture and studying a lot about end times eschatology.

Conrad is survived by his wife Carol; sons Steve TeVelde (Jenell) of Bellingham, Ron TeVelde of Everson, and Chris TeVelde (Marlys) of Blaine; and grandchildren Hunter TeVelde, Paige TeVelde, Cora TeVelde, and Emmitt TeVelde. He will be greatly missed by sisters Bertha Smit of Ferndale and Gertrude Bothof of Wisconsin, brother Gerrit “John” and Elsie TeVelde of Lynden, sisters-in-law Nell TeVelde of Lynden, Patti (Curt) Tinklenberg of Lynden, and Connie Klein (brother-in-law Stan deceased) of Lynden; brothers-in-law Marlon(Glenda) Klein, Brian (Shari) Klein and Terry (Stacy) Klein; parents-in-law Hermina and Adrian Arendse and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Whatcom Hospice and nurses for their tender care and kindness in his final days at home.
