Obituary for Clyde Fisher

Alleluia! Clyde Fisher went to be with the Lord, and his bride MaryLou, on Aug. 1, 2019. Clyde was born Dec. 1, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in the shadow of Wrigley Field. He graduated from Lane Tech High School, University of Illinois (BA in geology), and Southern Illinois University (2 Masters degrees and a Doctorate).
Clyde retired after a 21-year military career with the Army, including a tour in Vietnam and three tours to Germany. He served as a helicopter and airplane pilot, a tank commander, was assigned to the Pentagon, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Clyde and MaryLou traveled extensively throughout the US and Europe during his military career, living in 10 different states and four cities in Germany.
A quiet retirement didn’t suit him. His post-retirement life included serving as Director of Continuing Education Center at SIUE, Director of the Lifetime Learning Center in Seattle, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and Wycliff Bible Translators, owning an apple tree farm, small group leader, finance instructor and managing a community garden.
Clyde was truly the hands and feet of Jesus. He felt God’s love and gave it away freely to anyone in need. He and MaryLou opened their home to missionaries and the homeless, lead Bible studies and supported women in crisis.
Clyde was preceded in death by MaryLou, his beloved wife of 68 years.
He is survived by children Cindy (Pete) Visser of Lynden, Linda (Paul) Zemler of Lynden, Bill (Sue) Fisher of Boerne, Texas, and Bob Fisher of “wanderlust”; along with 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Opa, your rich legacy will be felt for many generations to come. You are so loved and missed, but we rejoice with the angels knowing that you are finally home.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24 in Greenwood Cemetery (This is a change from Monumenta Cemetery which was published).
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” Matthew 25:35
